FLASHBACK to the late 50s. When Yvonne Rogow visited her Aunt Sadie and Uncle Izzie, her 7-year old daughter, Pamela, happily passed the time typing in the sunny alcove of their Hollywood bungalow on Heliotrope Drive. The typewriter's brand is lost to history but her enthusiasm for this mode of expression is steadfast.

FAST FORWARD with Pamela, past a grade school magic show business with friend Judy Carter. Both girls grew up to be self-employed at the intersection of education and entertainment. Pamela went on to work for Fleur Cowles in London (renting a typewriter for a research project in the famous Round Reading Room of the British Museum), edit several magazines, graduate UCLA film school, co-found a museum exhibit design firm, and take on the informal learning field…to 2017, when she opened W.P.M. Typewriter Shop in Mt Airy, Philadelphia.

Pamela was metabolically connected to her IBM Selectric by the time Shirley Chisholm announced her candidacy for President.

ALSO FOR SALE:  Lamps, typewriter ephemera and curated finds.

Introducing the TYPEWRITER CIRCLE. We've moved Compare-and-Contrast up a notch. Here, Colleen Bracken of Germantown spins a yarn, telling stories about her mother's nocturnal typing habits while rolling around on a '60's swivel office chair.
